“Welcome and good evening, sir…ma’am,” the accent was heavy and thick. Brick put his hand on the waiter’s shoulder, bringing him down so that he could speak into his ear. “ah, oui, monsieur. Je suis désolé…maintenant,” and with a few courtesy bows, the waiter shuffled away, returning in seconds, it seemed, with the chef.

“Brick, my guy!” the two men smile and hug and step back, and hug one another, again.

“I couldn’t miss it, pop — how’s things?”

“Man, you see it. But never mind me, we got all night — who’s this marvelous young lady with you?”

“Pop, this is chef Dani — maybe you’ve heard of her, maybe not — ”

“Oh,” the man’s eyes lit up. “Who doesn’t know chef Dani? I am late to the party, as I am just learning social media; but you, young lady, are very impressive.”
