“Always Them, Never Us”

“Well, where shall we go?” Dwight asked statuesque brunette; swollen and red face.

“Somewhere to fix my fucking makeup-and not a rest stop, either.”

“Will Ruth’s Chris work?” Dwight smirked, and the woman with a head full of thick curls, punched his arm.

“Don’t be funny. You see I’m trying to be hurt here.”

“That’s funny.”

“You think I wanted to be left at the altar, huh?”

“What is your name?”

“Adele. Yours?”

“Dwight.”

“That’s sufficiently dorky enough.” Dwight cut his eyes at the woman who just introduced herself as Adele. “And she’s making fun of my name?” Dwight mused.

“Well, Adele — if that’s your name — “

“How did you even get into the wedding? Do you know Toddrick?”

“Hell no, baby,” Dwight felt a confident ease wash over him. Adele’s hand running up and down his right thigh, may have had a little to do with the feeling. “Always the friend of the groom — not even a groomsman — but never the groom.

“Felt,” Adele sighed heavy and disgusted; rolling her eyes as she turned her head and stared out of the window.
